Total chaos: Direct conflict with the police; 60 people were arrested PHOTO/VIDEO
About 60 people, including minors, were arrested in San Francisco on Sunday after protests outside an immigration office building turned violent and two police officers were slightly injured, police said.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices, protesting the raids and deportations of migrants that the agency is conducting across California and the United States, CNN reported.
The rally, which was initially peaceful, escalated into a confrontation with San Francisco police officers in riot gear.
According to the police statement, some protesters attacked police officers, in which two members of the police force were slightly injured, and damaged property. The police declared the protest an "illegal assembly", after which most of the demonstrators dispersed.
At the same time, at least 56 people were arrested in downtown Los Angeles for participating in protests against raids on immigrants, police said. Police said the protesters were arrested for ignoring warnings to disperse after the gathering in downtown Los Angeles was declared illegal, NBC reported.
It is pointed out that among those arrested is the person who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a police officer, as well as one person who allegedly drove a motorcycle into the cordon of police officers, in which one of them was injured.
Clashes between protesters and the police continue in the center of Los Angeles, and the police have warned that they will respond with force if the protesters use "incendiary means".
