Pope Francis, who died on Monday at the age of 89, was buried today in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

The journalist and activist was in St. Peter's Square with his wife and two children, the British Telegraph reported.

What will follow after the funeral?
Now in the Vatican there are nine days of mourning, known as 'novendiali', and during that period cardinals from all over the world are thinking about who to choose as Francis' successor.
The conclave with 135 cardinal electors cannot begin before May 6.
The Pope has been buried
Pope Francis has been buried, the Vatican has confirmed.
According to them, the closed ceremony in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore lasted about half an hour.
"The funeral was held according to the regulations of the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis, and it was presided over by Cardinal Chamberlain in the presence of the persons indicated in the appropriate notice of the Office for Liturgical Celebrations, as well as members of the family of the deceased Pope. The ceremony ended at 1:30 p.m. CET (12:30 p.m. UK time)," the Vatican said in a statement.
About 250,000 believers attended the Pope's funeral in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, and another 150,000 people gathered on the way from the Vatican to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, according to Italian media.

The priest called the meeting between Trump and Zelensky "a miracle of Pope Francis"
Members of the clergy call this morning's meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in St. Peter's Basilica a miracle of Pope Francis.
"It was a very moving experience," priest Francesco Giordano told Sky News.
"It was also touching to see what they now call the 'miracle of Pope Francis' - the meeting between Trump and Zelensky. So much happened today that it was all really shocking," he added.
