Sinner on the imperative to win over Alcaraz: "When you lose to him several times..."
Italian Jannik Sinner addressed the media after winning Wimbledon.
The world's number one, Jannik Sinner, is the new champion of Wimbledon, as he defeated the second seed, Carlos Alcaraz, in the final in London 4:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:4.
Sinner became the first Italian to take the trophy in London, and overall this was the fourth Grand Slam title of his career.
"It's an amazing feeling. A tournament that I've always dreamed of. Just playing and being a part of it, and now sitting here with the trophy...It's amazing...an amazing feeling," Sinner said.
Sinner was asked how important it was to him to beat Carlos Alcaraz again.
"When you lose to someone multiple times, it's not easy. But at the same time, in the past I felt I was very close," said the Italian.
"For sure it was important. If you look at our duels... starting from Beijing, 7:6 in the third set. Then in Rome, I had a set point in the first set. I didn't use it. Then in Paris, you know what happened. But I felt close. I never fell. I always look to Carlos because even today I felt he did some things better than me. That's something we will work on and prepare for. Because he will be my rival again. It's not just Carlos, we all have a big target on us. And then we'll see what the future brings," Sinner said.
