Vedrana Rudan was born on October 29, 1949, in Opatija. She grew up in Mošćenička Draga and was educated in Rijeka, where she graduated from the Pedagogical Academy.

Before becoming a well-known writer, she worked in a variety of professions. She was a teacher, tour guide, journalist, editor and television presenter. She worked for several Croatian media outlets and spent part of her career at Croatian Radio.

As a journalist, she became known for her direct writing and outspoken commentary on social and political issues. She wrote about family, women, politics, society, aging and everyday life, and her texts frequently provoked strong reactions from the public.

She began her literary career in 2002 with the novel “Uho, grlo, nož”. The book established her as a distinctive and provocative literary voice.

She subsequently published a series of novels and other works, including “Ljubav na posljednji pogled”, “Crnci u Firenci”, “Dabogda te majka rodila”, “Puding od vanilije”, “Doživotna robija” and “Ples oko Sunca”.

These books reflect the themes that marked Vedrana Rudan’s writing — love, family, women’s position, aging, politics and social hypocrisy, often presented through her characteristic sharpness and dark humor.

Her writing was characterized by sharp social criticism, dark humor, frankness and an uncompromising approach to subjects that were often considered taboo.

A special place in her work was held by the autobiography “Ples oko Sunca”/Dance around the Sun, in which Rudan wrote about her childhood, family, children, grandchildren and the life she led before becoming a well-known writer.

For years, Rudan also wrote on her blog “Kako umrijeti bez stresa”, where she commented on current events, social phenomena, politics, interpersonal relationships and issues from everyday life.

Her books were translated into several languages, and according to information published on her official website, she left behind 17 books. Her works were also adapted into theatre productions in Croatia and other countries.

Throughout her career, Vedrana Rudan was known for speaking openly about subjects that were often avoided in public discourse. She wrote about illness, death, aging, sexuality, violence, family and women’s position in society.

Her career spanned several decades and encompassed journalism, literature, television and the internet. Through her books, columns and public appearances, Rudan left a distinctive mark on the literary and media landscape of the region.
