The Emergency Response Headquarters is currently in session

The meeting of the Emergency Response Headquarters is attended by Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Djuro Macut, Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, Head of the Sector for Emergency Management Luka Čaušić, Ministers Dragan Glamočić, Adrijana Mesarović, Sara Pavkov, Nemanja Starović, Dubravka Djedović, and Marko Djurić, as well as President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Djuro Macut urged citizens to reduce their electricity consumption over the next 10 days, saying that electricity generation remains stable for now but is operating at a low level.

"We need to appeal to our fellow citizens to reduce the use of high-power electricity consumers, including air conditioners, in their homes," Macut said.

According to him, reducing the use of major electricity-consuming appliances will lessen the need to draw on Serbia's reserve power capacity, which is available thanks to the hydropower plant on the Danube, ensuring that those reserves are not used beyond their sustainable operating limits.

He noted that neighboring countries, including Hungary and Romania, have already introduced much stricter measures.

Earlier, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović said that electricity generation at the Djerdap 1 hydropower plant had fallen to 20% of capacity due to the low water level of the Danube.

She added that everyone in Serbia's energy sector is fully committed to managing the impact of the drought and urged citizens to use electricity responsibly.
