Rubio: "We want to deepen our partnership with Serbia"; "I hope I'll be able to visit" VIDEO
Serbia represents a strategic partnership in which the United States has a strong interest and which it plans to deepen, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
Rubio was asked about the strategic partnership between Serbia and the United States while speaking to reporters after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He responded to praise directed at him and U.S. President Donald Trump by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
“That’s good. I like praise. We don’t always get it, you know,” Rubio said.
“We plan to revive that strategic partnership. We already have; we have taken certain steps and established closer contacts. We have already had officials from the State Department visit Serbia, and I hope I will also have an opportunity to visit. This is a partnership that we want to deepen, and we plan to do so,” the U.S. Secretary of State said.
Serbia and the United States officially launched their first-ever Strategic Dialogue on July 17 this year in Washington.
The first round of the dialogue at the State Department was led by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djurić and Marco Rubio. During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on energy infrastructure and regional energy security was signed, along with agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of technology and science.
The Pavlovic Today exclusively reported last week that the State Department is preparing a major U.S. presence at Expo 2027 in Belgrade, the first specialized exposition of its kind to be held in the Balkans.
The plans, confirmed by a State Department official, envision the exposition as not only a showcase of American culture but also a platform for deeper U.S. commercial and economic engagement in Serbia and the wider region.
“We are very excited to participate in Expo 2027 in Belgrade next year, and we are confident that the U.S. Pavilion will be a major attraction for all visitors interested in learning more about American sports and music, as well as American innovation, business achievements, and opportunities for cooperation,” a State Department official told The Pavlovic Today.
