At the beginning of his address, Police Director Dragan Vasiljević expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased woman.

“Considering the tragic incident last night in front of the Faculty of Philosophy building in Belgrade, here in the center of our capital, we have called this press conference to share what has been established so far and to continue further measures and actions in accordance with the law. At the start of this conference, I take the opportunity to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” Vasiljević said.

He stated that last night, around 10:40 PM, the police were alerted by a person who reported that an individual was lying motionless on the plateau in front of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

“Police officers from the Belgrade City Police Department promptly arrived at the scene with available forces and found a young female lying motionless on the spot,” he said.

Other relevant authorities, as well as emergency medical services, were simultaneously notified, and the medical team on site confirmed the death. Following the prosecutor’s instructions, the body was transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine all other facts and circumstances surrounding the death, Vasiljević added.

“Earlier today, our officers from the Anti-Corruption Department of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received an urgent order—a prompt request to collect the necessary information—from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, specifically from the Special Department for Combating Corruption, in order to gather all required information regarding the unfortunate incident,” Vasiljević said at the Palace of Serbia.

He added that the prosecutor’s office has ordered the collection of all necessary documentation from the Faculty of Philosophy regarding campus safety, work organization, procedures for entering the faculty building, faculty working hours, and other facts and circumstances relevant to this incident.

“This is also aimed at determining whether the safety measures at the faculty were in compliance with applicable regulations or with the internal acts adopted by the faculty itself. Measures and actions in accordance with the order of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade are currently underway,” Vasiljević said.
