Tirana, Zagreb and Priština make plans against Belgrade; Military exercise - a new threat and danger to Serbia
Albanian Defense Minister Pirro Vengu stated that this year a joint exercise will be held between Albania, Croatia, and Pristina.
Following the meeting of the Chiefs of General Staff of the Albanian and Croatian Armed Forces and the commander of the so-called Kosovo Security Forces (KBS), held today in Shkodër, Vengu stated on Facebook that the meeting was another step within the framework of the Albania-Croatia-Pristina defense cooperation agreement. He emphasized that the focus was on joint exercises and training to address security challenges and hybrid threats.
“The first trilateral exercise will be held in 2026, in line with NATO’s strategic concept and Euro-Atlantic objectives,” Vengu noted.
He added that the objectives were to strengthen military cooperation, increase interoperability, and enhance operational readiness. Earlier today in Shkodër, a meeting was held between the Chiefs of General Staff of the Albanian and Croatian Armed Forces and the commander of the so-called KBS.
On January 30, a meeting was held in Zagreb between Croatia, Albania, and Pristina at the level of directors for defense policy and armaments. Albania, Croatia, and Pristina signed a memorandum on defense and security cooperation in Tirana on March 18, 2025.
Senior Serbian officials emphasized after the signing of that memorandum that it constitutes a violation of the 1996 subregional arms control agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and that it is directly directed against Serbia.
According to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, KFOR is the only armed force in Kosovo and Metohija.
However, in 2009, Pristina established the so-called Kosovo Security Forces (KBS) from the Kosovo Protection Corps, the successor of the so-called KLA, and in 2018, the Assembly of the provisional institutions, without the presence of Serbian representatives, adopted a law transforming the so-called KBS into an army.
