"When he says - America in the first place, we feel free to say 'Hungary in the first place', and you Serbs can feel free to say 'Serbia in the first place,'" said Péter Szijjártó in an interview with the newspaper "Politika".

He pointed out that he is "very happy" that Trump took over as president of the USA and that what makes Hungary less happy is the behavior of the European Union.

"The EU is paralyzed, the European institutions are behaving in an absolutely inappropriate way. They are suffering from Trumpophobia, instead of negotiating with him. President Trump is great at many things, among them in making a deal," said Szijjártó, adding that he thinks it would be easy to find a way for the EU to agree with him, but that European leaders in Brussels are showing that they are not able to do that.

When it comes to cooperation with Serbia, Szijjártó said that the key and critical area of cooperation between the two countries is energy.

"I consider it a great progress that we reached an agreement on the construction of a new pipeline that will deliver oil to Serbia via Hungary," he said.

He said that many technical issues have been agreed upon, the outcome of which could be that 2028 is a realistic date for that pipeline to enter full function.

Regarding the anti-government protests that broke out in Serbia and Hungary, Szijjártó emphasized that the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, are leaders and key figures of patriotic movements in Europe, in leading positions.

He assessed that all these protests look the same.

"I think it is an orchestrated, externally orchestrated and led organization of a rally against our governments. The good thing is that the future of the country is not decided only by the demonstrators, but by all the people," the minister pointed out.

He also said that he thinks it is "very dangerous" how the European leadership treats Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, because their approach illuminates their approach to the entire Western Balkans, "which is that they do not respect the will of the people here."

The people of Republika Srpska want Dodik to be their leader, and everyone must respect that.

"President Vučić was elected by the Serbian people in Serbia, which must be respected, therefore, the will of the Serbian people must be respected, just as the will of all people in the Western Balkans must be respected", Szijjártó pointed out.

He assessed that the way Western Europeans approach Dodik is not only humiliating for him, but also for the people of Republika Srpska.

"That approach must change," he stressed.

Szijjártó assessed that the current EU leadership is definitely not able to "come to grips" with new challenges.

"The problem is that the debate on the future structure of the EU is currently very unbalanced... This time, when the challenges exist, show very clearly that we need personalities, leaders who can make decisions on complicated issues, because institutions cannot do that," Szijjártó concluded.
