The government made a decision on the new acting police director

At today's session, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a decision to appoint the current assistant director of the police, Dragan Vasiljević, as the acting director of the police, Dacic announced.

Vasiljević will perform his duty until the end of the ongoing public competition, with the aim of optimal functioning of the Police Directorate.

Dragan Vasiljević fulfills the formal and legal requirements for the appointment, and in his previous work he has demonstrated a high level of knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of this job, both in terms of professional qualifications and in terms of professionalism.

Dragan Vasiljević was born on August 11, 1970. He graduated from the KoV Military Academy in Belgrade. From April 1, 1993 to September 16, 1994, he was employed in the Ministry of Defense - Yugoslav Army as a company commander.

From September 17, 1994 to October 31, 2003, he was employed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs - PU Novi Pazar, where, among others, he held the position of commander of the Novi Pazar Police Station and deputy head of the Police Department.

From November 1, 2003 to June 1, 2018, he performed a number of duties in the Gendarmerie, where, among other things, he was the commander of the Gendarmerie Detachment in Belgrade from 2007 to 2015, as well as the assistant commander of the Gendarmerie.

Since June 1, 2018, he has been assigned to the Police Directorate in the positions of Commander of Police Intervention Units, Commander of the PJP Police Brigade and Assistant Director of Police for Police Affairs.

From 2021, by the decisions of the ministers, he is authorized to manage the Directorate of Police.

Due to the exceptional results achieved in the performance of police work, he was awarded:

• Charter on awarding by the President of the Republic with the Order of Merit in the Fields of Defense and Security, 1st degree in 1999
• The first prize of the Minister of Internal Affairs on the occasion of the Day of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Day of the Police in 2009
• By the Charter on the Award of the Medieval Serbian Sword by the President of the Republic of Serbia in 2020
• With the highest professional recognition of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Hungary "St. George" in 2022
• With the charter of awarding "Star Jakov Nenadović" from the Minister of Internal Affairs in 2024.

He completed the Higher Studies of Security and Defense at the School of National Defense of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia in 2020.

He is married, the father of three children, said Minister Dacic in the announcement.
