Serbia attends EU conference

A two-day international conference, European Union 2020: Enlarging and Integrating, begins on Sunday in Bled, Slovenia. The conference will bring together around 400 government representatives at the highest level, politicians, EU officials, private sector leaders and senior representatives from think tanks and non-governmental sector to examine the key challenges that Europe is currently facing. Serbia attends EU conference Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa and Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel are expected to open the event which comprises four panels dedicated primarily to the future of EU enlargement and integration processes, energy and climate change. The conference is seen as a part of preparations for Slovenia’s six-month presidency of the EU set to begin on January 1, 2008. Following the opening ceremony of the Bled Strategic Forum, UN Special Kosovo Envoy Martti Ahtisaari will deliver a speech during the formal dinner party on Sunday evening. The Serbian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. Rupel said he sent an invitation to Kosovo prime minister Agim Ceku to attend the opening. Ceku’s name has not been included in the official list of participants.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša and Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel are expected to open the event which comprises four panels dedicated primarily to the future of EU enlargement and integration processes, energy and climate change.

The conference is seen as a part of preparations for Slovenia’s six-month presidency of the EU set to begin on January 1, 2008.
