Serbia's presidency over the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 2015 represents "great success and recognition for our foreign policy". It shows that the country's international position has strengthened, analysts said in reaction to the news out of Vienna on Friday. Analysts: Great success of Serbian diplomacy Director of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence Sonja Liht stated that the decision on Serbia's OSCE chair is immensely important, stressing that this role is both an acknowledgement and a great responsibility. “This is a confirmation that Serbia's foreign policy and its behavior in the international arena still have many positive aspects,” said Liht, who is also the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Director of the New Policy Center Vladimir Todoric stated that the decision on Serbia's OSCE chair is unambiguous success for Serbia. “This is unambiguous success of Serbia's foreign policy in spite of its difficult position in the last few years. I believe that this is recognition of reality that Serbia is an indispensable factor of regional cooperation and the overall relief of tensions in western Balkans,” Todoric said. Professor of International Relations Predrag Simic qualified this decision as good news which, as he put it, contributes to Serbia's international position. “Serbia's appointment to the OSCE chair is certainly good news as it builds up Serbia's reputation in the international arena and contributes to its international position which is particularly important in terms of certain issues such as Kosovo or the EU candidacy application,” Simic said. Editor of the Challenges of European Integrations magazine Nikola Jovanovic stated Thursday that the OSCE chair is a great acknowledgement for a country, and its diplomacy in particular. "It means that immense progress has been made in the past year. It's a definitive signal that Serbia is a factor in the international scene that is trusted, and that can be given the most sensitive and most difficult tasks related to international policy," this expert said, adding that the decision made today was "a good omen" when it comes to other candidatures submitted by Serbia, to be decided on in the near future.
