A promotion of Serbia as a summer vacation destination has been organized in the wake of establishment of direct flights between Belgrade and Madrid. An exhibition of photographs has also been opened in Madrid as part of a project organized by Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic’s cabinet. Serbia promotes tourist offer in Madrid In April, Spainair carrier introduced flights from Barcelona to Belgrade. In the last several years, there have been many more Italians, Germans and British visiting Serbian than Spaniards, statistics show. Now Serbian tourism officials, equipped with flyers in Spanish, are in Madrid, trying to entice Spanish citizens to come see what Serbia has to offer, from city tours to summer music festivals and so-called ethno tourism. “We are sure that Spanish people will come not only because of Belgrade as a weekend destination, but also for various festivals, and we are using this opportunity and situation to promote Guca as a festival that is very popular among Spaniards, as well as the Exit and Beer fests,” Belgrade Tourism Organization official Ivana Milatovic said. “Spaniards love to travel and I think that this crisis has not discouraged them. At the same time, there are many people who like to try something new and since they have been traveling through Europe for the last two-three decade and have seen most capitals, Belgrade will be very refreshing for them,” Bozidar Djelic, who was present at the event in Madird, said. “This is a big market. The crisis is present, but there will be traveling done this summer, and we should tell them about Exit, Guca, Novi Sad, spa resorts, ethno villages, and everything else that Serbia has to offer,” he said.
