Verdict delivered in Ibarska trial

Nenad Bujošević, Branko Berček, Dušan Maričić and Leonid Milivojević have been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment.

Former State Security chief Radomir Marković will serve an 8-year prison term, while Mihalj Kertes, former Federal Customs director, got 2.5 years.

Dragiša Dinić, former member of State Security’s Belgrade branch, is to spend 19 months behind bars, and Vidan Mijailović, member of Serbian Interior Ministry traffic police, received 9-month-long jail sentence.

Former Belgrade Police chief Branko Đurić and Milan Radonjić, former chief of SUP Belgrade, have been acquitted.

The penalties are somewhat lighter in comparison to the previous verdict that sentenced Radomir Marković to 10 years of imprisonment.

Previous trials and verdicts

The verdict in the first trial was delivered on January 20, 2003, sentencing State Security chief Radomir Marković to seven years in prison. Immediate perpetrators Nenad Bujošević and Nenad Ilić received 15 year sentences each, while State Security Belgrade branch chief Milan Radonjić was found not guilty of the charges.

The Supreme Court annulled the verdict and ordered a retrial. The new extended indictment raised in 2005, included charges against twelve people, with Milorad Ulemek, former JSO commander, among the accused.

The second verdict was delivered in June 2005, finding the accused Ulemek and five JSO members guilty on murder charges. They received maximum sentence of 15 years of imprisonment each.

Radomir Marković was sentenced to 10 years in prison for aiding the perpetrators, whilst Mihalj Kertes got 3 years. Vidan Nijeilović and Dragiša Dinić, former members of State Security’s Belgrade branch, received two years of imprisonment.

The Supreme Court rescinded the verdict at the beginning of 2006 and ordered another retrial. The first accused in the latest Ibarska case trial are Radomir Marković and Milan Radonjić, followed by state security chiefs, with JSO members at the bottom of the indictment.
