Croatian Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said that the initiative for founding a joint railway company is an excellent one. He said that anyone stating that something such as that would remind of the old Yugoslavia, should note the fact that there would be no politics involved in the venture. Regional railway company “good idea” “It is the founding of a joint company that will participate in tenders in order for procedures to by easier and faster, in order to get more freight moving down the ‘right corridor,’ which goes through Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, and Turkey as well,” he told Deutsche Welle. He said that the endeavor would be favorable economically, adding that compared to Corridor 4, which travels in the same direction, Corridor 10 is about 900 kilometers shorter. Since 90 percent of products go by Corridor 4 not 10, it is in the interest of everyone involved to have products travel by Corridor 10 instead, Kalmeta said. The Croatian Railway believes that the Serbia-Croatia-Slovenia (SHS) Railway could give them some wind in their sails, adding that preparations have already begun for a working group made up of officials from all three countries, with the goal of increasing the quality of transportation and wagon capacities, as well as developing infrastructure. Currently, there are 700 trains traveling the Ljubljana-Zagreb-Belgrade-Dimitrovgrad-Istanbul route, while 7,000 trains use the Corridor 4 route through Hungary.
