Campaigning ends today ahead of the fourth presidential and fifth local elections in Macedonia, scheduled for March 22. Election silence will fall at midnight tonight after a 20-day campaign, while polling stations will be open on Sunday from 07:00 to 19:00 CET. Last day of campaigning in Macedonian elections 1,792,082 citizens are entitled to vote. There are seven candidates for the post of president, who will be elected on the basis of a majority of votes cast. Displaced persons, members of the armed forces, prison inmates, the ill and the disabled will be able to cast their votes tomorrow. The candidates for the presidency are Gjorgje Ivanov of the VMRO DPMNE, Ljubomir Frchkovski of the Social Democratic Union, independent candidate Ljube Boshkovski, Nano Ruizhin of the Liberal Democratic Party, Agron Budzhaku of the Democratic Union for Integration, Imer Selmani of New Democracy, and Mirusha Hodzha of the Democratic Party of Albanians, the only female candidate. 370 candidates are registered for mayoral elections in 84 municipalities, and there are around 700 electoral lists for positions in municipal councils. The ballot will be monitored by 6,981 domestic and 524 foreign observers.
