Đukanović most powerful in Montenegro

Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) President Milo Đukanović is the most influential man in Montenegro, according to a study by the CG Ekonomist magazine.

Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) President Milo Djukanovic is the most influential man in Montenegro, according to a study by the CG Ekonomist magazine. 22 editors and journalists form Podgorica took part in the study, the aim of which was to show which personalities Montenegrin journalists believed to be the most influential in the fields of politics, finance, and business. Djukanovic most powerful in Montenegro Djukanovic, who was recently elected for another term as prime minister, is by far the most influential man in the country, say the journalists. “Absolutely everyone questioned felt that Djukanovic had the most influence in politics, and he received maximum points. He received quite a lot of votes in the other two categories, so that he is in the top five of all the lists,” states the magazine in tomorrow’s edition. In second place behind Djukanovic in the politics category was DPS Vice-President Svetozar Marovic. Podgorica Mayor Miomir Mugosa finished third, just ahead of Foreign Minister Milan Rocen. Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic was fifth. The journalists said that Djukanovic and Marovic enjoyed the most authority on the political scene, of which they were the absolute leaders. They said that the prime minister was “the most powerful, everything in Montenegro is under his control, and the DPS rules the roost.” Other highly-ranked politicians included, President of the Movement for Change Nebojsa Medojevic, Andrija Mandic, the leader of the Serb List, Ranko Krivokapic, Vanja Calovic, director of the Network for the Establishment of the Non-Government Sector, Head of the Serbian Orthodox Church Amfilohije, Deputy Prime Minister Gordana Djurovic, and Socialist People’s Party MP Predrag Bulatovic. Leading the business category is Podgorica businessman Veselin Barovic. The journalists said that he owned a significant holding in the country’s largest companies, such as Rudnik Uglja, the Bajo Sekulic salt mill, Bjelasice Rade, and could thus influence their dealings, and, in turn, the Montenegrin economy. Barovic is also a member of the national power company’s board, via Euro Fond, of which he is a co-owner, and, among other things, he owns a 20 percent stake in Broadband Montenegro, that won the license to offer this service throughout all the country's municipalities. Second on the list is Aco Djukanovic, Milo’s brother, a shareholder and owner of several companies, and third is Dusko Knezevic, president of the Atlas Group. Fourth is the Montenegrin prime minister himself, while fifth is Dragan Brkovic, owner of the Vektra company. This list is the longest, containing 24 individuals, and includes Svetozar Marovic, who is sixth, Veselin Vukotic, Arsenije Vujovic, Miroslav Ivanisevic, Tomislav Celebic, Oleg Deripaska, Miodrag Davidovic, Vujica Lazovic, Vladan Vujovic, and Miroslav Miskovic. The finance list contains 23 names. Aco Djukanovic is first with 53 votes, followed by Milka Ljumovic, head of the Montenegrin Commercial Bank, Knezevic, and fourth, Milo Djukanovic. In fifth place is Ljubisa Krgovic, president of the Montenegrin Central Bank’s Advisory Board. Đukanović most powerful in Montenegro

Đukanović, who was recently elected for another term as prime minister, is by far the most influential man in the country, say the journalists.

“Absolutely everyone questioned felt that Đukanović had the most influence in politics, and he received maximum points. He received quite a lot of votes in the other two categories, so that he is in the top five of all the lists,” states the magazine in tomorrow’s edition.

In second place behind Đukanović in the politics category was DPS Vice-President Svetozar Marović.

Podgorica Mayor Miomir Mugoša finished third, just ahead of Foreign Minister Milan Roćen.
