Chair of the Bosnian Council of Ministers Nikola Spiric has asked the U.S. to assist Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic integration. He asked for the U.S.’s support during a conversation with Congressman Chris Smith in Washington. Bosnia seeks U.S. help for integrations Spiric stressed the need to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement which, after the Dayton Accords, was the most important agreement for the country and would awaken its creative potential. He said that extending the Dayton Accords would ensure Bosnia-Hercegovina’s continued progress towards Brussels and Washington. “We should steer clear of talk of a new Constitution, as that would mean standing still, while a solution is sought that we don’t know can be found,” Spiric underlined, according to a statement from the Council of Ministers. He told Smith that the matter of constitutional reform was currently at the top of the Bosnian political agenda, reiterating his own view that it was necessary to extend the existing Constitution on the basis of the Dayton Accords, and in line with the requirements Bosnia-Hercegovina faces on its path towards the EU and NATO.
