"Pro-Serb, pro-Milosevic EU states don't recognize Kosovo"

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj says it is "very unlikely" that the five EU member-states who do not recognize Kosovo will do so "this year."

Another blow, according to Hoxhaj, is Kosovo's "non-membership in the UN."

He said that this was the reason why "many countries still hesitate to recognize Kosovo."

As for the EU five, Hoxhaj said one of the reasons behind their "hesitation" was their "lack of involvement in the Kosovo issue during the 1990s."

“During the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia, some of these pursued not only a pro-Serb but perhaps even a pro-Milosevic policy,” he said, adding that they also "had reservations towards the Martti Ahtisaari-led status proposal process fearing implications in their own internal situation with minority communities."
