The Serbian president, who was visiting the Eastern European country last week, said that "the Western civilization has made a number of serious mistakes in Iraq, Libya and now also in Syria, in trying to introduce a democratic system to those nations."

"What follows after such democratization? Nikolic asked, adding that people have been stripped of their wealth - oil, gas and gold," TASS reports.

That, he said, is the root of the catastrophic migration problem.

According to the president, "the inflow of resources into Europe is accompanied by the inflow of migrants from North Africa and the Middle East" - while Islamic State mercenaries "are now among the refugees."

"The threat of terrorism is growing like a malignant tumor in Europe, and the situation here will not settle down," Nikolic warned.
