Šešelj's return "not cause for concern for SNS"

The Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) decided to grant Šešelj provisional release due to the accused's worsening health.

"The Serbian government has so far given guarantees, whenever it had a chance and whenever that was asked from it, for all its citizens, including Vojislav Šešelj. The latest decision is entirely humane," Babić said in a live broadcast on Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS).

Babić said that the Serbian government "looks after each and every citizen, including Šešelj."

"As for his policy, we have nothing to worry about, as that policy is long outdated," he noted.

Asked to comment on Labor Minister Aleksandar Vulin's claim made on Friday that the decision to release the war crimes defendant was meant to "destabilize Serbia," and whether the statement showed there was fear in the government caused by Šešelj's return, Babić said that Vulin was "his friend" and that, "like every normal person" the only thing the minister feared was "God."

Meanwhile, the Tribunal announced that in line with its rules and for security reasons, it would confirm that the accused had been released only once he leaves the Netherlands.
