NOVI SAD Tests of milk samples done in laboratories in Germany showed elevated presence of aflatoxin in all samples. This was announced on Friday by the provincial government of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. Provincial authorities say all samples had raised aflatoxin Provincial Secretary for International Cooperation Branislav Bugarski said at a news conference that all 25 samples sent to the laboratory in Baden-Wurttemberg had more than 0.08 micrograms per kilogram, the maximum potential value that can be measured in the laboratory. He explained that nine samples of milk were taken from store shelves in Vojvodina on February 20, and the remaining 16 taken on February 25, following the order to withdraw those milk products that had in excess of 0.05 micrograms of aflatoxin. Bugarski said that the results of test performed at reference laboratories in the vicinity of Munich showed that in all 19 samples of milk had from 0.1 to 0.12 micrograms per kilogram. Two years ago Serbia lowered the permitted level of the toxin from 0.5 to 0.05 micrograms, but that decision was reversed this week. (Tanjug, file) Beta
