BELGRADE EU's leading countries realize that the reason for examining the ties between Ivica Dacic and Darko Saric was - Kosovo, says a former MP. Vesna Pesic commented on the controversy surrounding the prime minister's contacts with a member of Saric's drug gang, and said those EU members were opposed to early elections in this country. "Western countries support PM Dacic" "They stood against introducing so much instability into a policy that they appraise as being on the right track. The leading EU states have clearly opposed a scenario of going to elections now - well, doesn't that outcome speak clearly that they realized, just as I have, that Kosovo is the main reason for examining the ties between Dacic and Saric?," this former high-ranking LDP party official stated in her interview for the Belgrade-based weekly NIN. Pesic apprised that leading western countries "indirectly supported Dacic". "If the DS and the LDP continue with this policy, they will lose all influence if they get an opponent in the shape of the international community. Well, everybody understands that this government must now complete certain jobs, while elections would interrupt the processes that have only started moving in the right direction. It would be a scandalous waste of time," she noted. "Anyway, elections were held not a year ago and there is no parameter based on which we could even appraise whether those who took over the government did their jobs well. Elections serve precisely for that, and if that's missing, I'm not interested in elections. From now on, we must judge our representatives based on (their) results," Pesic concluded.
