BELGRADE The situation in the Democratic Party (DS) that was created after the electoral defeat could start to unfold on September 1, Belgrade press has reported. The party's Main Board meeting should be held on September 1. “Situation in DS to unfold as of September” There are several scenarios as to the way in which the crisis in the party might be solved, but as Belgrade-based daily Press writes, citing certain sources, it is possible that the delegates would not endorse a report put forward by the party's leader Boris Tadic, which would automatically mean that the emergency electoral meeting should be scheduled with a view to electing new senior officials, a new leader included. Belgrade-based daily Danas reports that the regular meeting of the DS Main Board will take place in September, and it is possible that the urgent DS leadership election would be scheduled on that occasion. The electoral meeting could be convened at the request of the Presidency, members of the Main Board, or after rejecting Tadic's report on the party's work in the last three months, the daily notes. Sources from the DS delivered an estimate that the electoral meeting would probably not be scheduled on September 1, but that at the meeting of the Main Board, the members would probably start resolving the situation in the party, from which the news about disagreements among senior officials leaked out more often. The agenda of the meeting is yet to be determined, but the party's statute stipulates that it shall be sent to the members of that body at least 7 days before the meeting is to take place, the daily writes. As regards the topics that would be addressed at the regular meeting, “no one knows anything”, but on September 1, Tadic will certainly present his report on the party's work in the period following the May elections, the daily's sources said. However, a majority of the Main Board members are of the opinion that the electoral meeting should be scheduled, or at least tentatively announced, during the regular meeting. “At the same time, an increasing number of DS members deem that the party should at last take an advantage of the option stipulated in the party's statute that all party members should have a vote on the party's senior officials. Some also voiced views that the new DS senior officials should be elected in the next six month at the latest, so that the party could consolidate in that way after the electoral defeat it suffered in May," the daily writes. Daily Vecernje novosti writes that the DS will request from certain officials that are considered to be the most responsible for the poor election results to submit their resignation letters at the Main Board meeting. According to the daily, DS deputy leader Dusan Petrovic and Oliver Dulic’s names are so far on the list but another 40 officials will be asked to resign. Tanjug Vecernje novosti
