The opposition SNS party has called on the government to scrap plans to sell its share in Telekom Srbija. The country would suffer multiple damages to its economic interests if the sale went through, SNS official Marko Djuric told a news conference in Belgrade on Sunday. Opposition party against Telekom sale "It's clear that authorities are thoughtlessly entering the sale of Telekom because they have no other answer to the catastrophic economic and social situation," he asserted. Djuric said that the telecommunications company was of strategic importance for Serbia, "since it connects not only the economy and citizens but also state institutions, army and police". Another SNS official, Nikola Selakovic, told reporters that the sale of Telekom, previously planned for the fall, comes at a time when the regime parties enjoy lowest approval ratings, and referred to the company as "the only remaining precious thing in Serbia". Selakovic blamed "systemic corruption" as the main reason behind a lack of direct foreign investments, and said only early elections would solve that problem.
