Tomislav Nikolić's trips to the EC have not made him any more European than Vojislav Šešelj's detention at The Hague has done the same for the SRS leader.

Tomislav Nikolic's trips to the EC have not made him any more European than Vojislav Seselj's detention at The Hague has done the same for the SRS leader. This is according to Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic, who spoke for Belgrade daily Danas to criticize Nikolic, the president of the opposition SNS, and a former close political ally of Seselj. LDP leader on SNS counterpart, Kosovo "I do not have any understanding for a process in which Nikolic, in the corridors of the EU, makes promises that nobody in Serbia is ready to see come true, only in order to receive support," Jovanovic said of Nikolic's recent trip to Brussels. “That way, he is using the chance that Tadic opened up to him, by offering a place in the project of defense of the unsuccessful Kosovo policy to those who were the main culprits for its failure 15 years ago,” he added. “The leader of the Progressives is now creating an alibi for himself, an opportunity to say one day that he was not responsible for anything, that everything would have been the same if he had not been a Radical, Seselj’s deputy, Milosevic’s deputy PM,“ the LDP leader replied when asked whether Nikolic’s vote for the government Kosovo resolution recently was agreed on with the EU. Asked to offer his opinion on what Serbia’s next steps regarding the status of Kosovo should be, Jovanovic said that the coutnry needed to “give up on the epic struggle for the status of Kosovo and the idea to keep insisting on it for centuries”. “Life of the Serbs in Kosovo should be put in the focus, because the price of Belgrade’s incompetence is so high, that it would eventually be paid by their disappearance," Jovanovic was quoted as saying. "A new defeat in the Kosovo policy must not be recorded as a minus of pro-European policy, because it’s not true. That’s why we are requesting a new policy. The turning to partners who will influence the future of Serbia, to ddresses where that is decided. Those are the EU and America. Serbia must find a policy which will incorporate its interests, even those linked to Kosovo, into the interests and plans of Europe and America,” said the LDP leader. Jovanovic also said that Serbia’s draft Kosovo resolution submitted to the UN General Assembly earlier this week was “calculating, doomed to fail”. “The LDP requested that we do everything to achieve one victory and that it is in our favor and not to the detriment of anyone. That’s why we asked to go to Brussels immediately, to write and submit the resolution of discontinuity, and a new policy together with the EU, which would embed us into a new European partnership. There was no courage and vision for something like that, Serbia made a desperate man’s move, so it was the easiest for the media in the west to compare it to the Serbia of the 1990s” Jovanovic believes.
