Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said that the Democratic Party (DS) is not against a reconstruction of the government. He said that a consensus within the entire ruling party would be needed, however, for this to happen. “DS not against changes in cabinet” Djelic said that there have been no discussions of a reconstruction of the government, but that DS is ready to talk about it. “Our party has nothing against it, but a consensus of all the members of the ruling coalition is needed, and I gave my personal opinion that a smaller government would be more functional, and that it is a European practice to make changes in personnel in the middle of the mandate, because it can lead to a new enthusiasm and a fresh start,” Djelic said. Experts are convinced that there are no conditions in Serbia currently for such an idea to be implemented. Political analyst Milan Nikolic said that the main problem is the lack of agreement between ministers regarding changes in the government. “From time to time politicians remember to urge for a decrease in the size of the government, which would be seen as a measure for saving money, but I don’t know what that serves as besides an affirmation for some politicians. We now have universal ministers who are in energy today and youth and sport tomorrow. It would be good to have more experts, and then the government would function better,” he said. The topic of reconstructing the government was most recently brought up by Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic, who said that there have been informal talks led on the topic. Socialist Party official Dusan Bajatovic said that it would be a difficult job, since the question affects political relations within the ruling coalition. Bozidar Djelic (FoNet archive)
