Croatian President Stjepan Mesic says that a negotiated solution would be the best outcome to the Kosovo crisis. Mesic added that it should be found “on the basis of the Ahtisaari Plan.” Mesic supports negotiated solution “I’d be happiest if it could be settled through talks. I don’t know if that’s still possible, but I know that it would be the best outcome for all,” he said in an interview with Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. The Croatian president said that his country, which became a temporary member of the UN Security Council on January 1, supported a solution that was backed by a majority of EU member-states, given that Zagreb hoped to join the EU soon and wished to respect its rules.
