Only the Security Council can interpret Resolution 1244 as their is no judicial control of its work, says an analyst. Following the EU’s decision to send a civil mission with police support to Kosovo and assorted opinions on whether or not the move is in line with Resolution 1244, Director of the Belgrade Center for Human Rights Vojin Dimitrijevic told B92’s Poligraf program that the resolution could be interpreted only by the Security Council itself. "Only Security Council can interpret 1244" He did not believe that Serbia would be asked explicitly to give up Kosovo in return for faster EU membership. “It’s one thing they’re getting at, but I doubt anyone will say: ’Please leave Kosovo, and you’ll get into the EU,’ and someone who’s not a main decision-maker, a government minister for example, won’t say this,“ said Dimitrijevic. “Maybe that will be the plan, I think that’s being offered to democratic forces on Boris Tadic’s side as some kind of incentive. Whether that incentive will pay off remains to be seen,“ he added. Following announcements that Serbia would sue states that recognized a possible Kosovo declaration of independence, Dimitrijevic said that there was no way of suing someone “just because they recognize something that you don’t like.“
