Most of Serbia's parliamentary parties reacted to the direct talks held in New York Friday by advocating a compromise. The first direct negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina on Kosovo's future status proved it was "good to talk and that only in that way a compromise solution can be reached," Tanjug quotes party officials today. Serbian parties react to Kosovo talks Democratic Party (DS) whip in the Serbian parliament Nada Kolundzija voiced belief that the direct talks would lead to a mutually acceptable outcome. Member of the G17 Plus Presidency Zeljko Ivanji believes that the most important thing at this time is that the direct talks have finally started. As for the opposition, Head of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) parliamentary group and party deputy president, Tomislav Nikolic, said that ethnic Albanians should be clearly told, “We will talk, but we can give you supervised autonomy, which is a phrase no one seems to have uttered so far.” Leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Ivica Dacic, qualified as positive the fact that direct negotiations took place for the first time, and urged for all deadlines for the end of the talks "to be lifted." Speaking about the Kosovo status negotiations, member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Presidency Zoran Ostojic was less optimistic and said that the Belgrade team left for New York “without any new ideas, unprepared, carrying the old policy in its bags."
