The Spanish half of a consortium that won the tender to construct the Horgos – Pozega highway has decided to drop the deal. B92 has unofficially learned that FCC has decided to give its half of the founding capital in the concession company to the second-placed bidder, German construction firm PORR. FCC pulls out of highway concession? The winner of the tender the government called last year to select a concessionaire for the construction and maintenance of the highway, running from the north to the central parts of the country, was the Spanish-Austrian consortium FCC – Alpine Mayreder. At the same time, FCC owns more than 80 percent of Alpine shares. The Austrian company will not pull out of the contract. Meanwhile, the Serbian government in effect has no means to influence the FCC's decision. It now appears that the circles close to the deal have known about the withdrawal for a while, adding to speculation that this was the reason behind the government's attempt to keep the concession contract hidden from the public eye for months. FCC is expected to shortly officially inform the government about the decision to hand over its share to PORR, sources have revealed. The highway contract, signed in Belgrade in March this year, has generated much controversy after the authorities, contrary to legal obligations, postponed the publication of the document for five months.
