The economy and regional development minister says the Serbian parliament is slow and lacks efficiency. Mladjan Dinkic presented the achievements of his ministry during the first 100 days of the government, noting that the new cabinet had sped up the privatization and restructuring of socially-owned companies. Economy minister critical of parliament After one hundred days in office, Dinkic said his ministry had reduced the unemployment rate, accelerated the privatization process, amplified the tourism budget by 250 percent, set aside funds for the regional balancing of municipalities, and taken the first steps towards encouraging direct investment. He stressed that reducing unemployment is a priority for Serbia, an additional problem being that the unemployed are usually uninformed about the possibilities they have. “Those without work often do not know what measures the state has introduced to help them find jobs. We will continue with reforms of the National Employment Agency.” Speaking of the parliament’s work, Dinkic remarked that the legislative body was delaying the ratification of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) "for reasons unknown". “It would come across as very frivolous if we appeared at the first meeting of CEFTA signatories without ratifying the agreement beforehand.” “The parliament is obviously lagging behind the government and there is no excuse for delaying the CEFTA ratification,” he stressed.
