Serbian foodstuffs exports grow

Foodstuffs products participated with 18.6 percent in the country’s overall exports.

At the same time, imports grew to reach US$ 142mn, a 24.5 percent increase compared to the value of imported foodstuffs in 2006 (those products took up 6.3 percent of total imports).

The foreign trade surplus in the agricultural produce sector was US$ 63.9mn, while exports covered imports with 145 percent. Serbia exported corn, refined sugar, fruit and vegetables, at the same time importing tobacco, raw coffee, bananas and oranges.

The favorable results come as a consequence of Serbia’s preferential status in the EU market, as well as of the CEFTA agreement and conjecture with agrarian produce in the global market.
