Serbia’s War Crimes Prosecution has filed charges against three Serbian citizens for war crimes against civilians. The indictment accuses ex-members of the Republic of Srpska (RS) Army Dragan Jovic, Zoran Djurdjevic and Alen Ristic of a war crime in the Bosnian town of Bijeljina on June 14, 1992. Charges filed against suspected war criminals The prosecution has stated that the accused men went into a Bosniak family’s home, took their money and then took turns raping two women repeatedly. According to the indictment, Jovic then shot a civilian in the head and made the two women walk through the town naked and barefoot. They are also accused of robbing a house of a disabled woman shortly after and stealing her car, which they used to get out of the town. They stopped the car in the village of Ljeljenca and repeatedly raped the two women. Afterward they left them on the side of the road, naked and barefoot. “What’s important is the fact that these men used to live among us, free. They were arrested for some general crimes and these war crimes indictments only came later. It’s really shocking that they used to be among us every day,” said Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekaric.
