Guard leader threatened Pride parade, arrested

A self-styled commander of the Czar Lazar Guard was detained by the police for making threats against the Pride parade participants and the national leadership. The prosecution says that cases such as this one against the Guard leader Hadzi Andrej Milic will be prosecuted and that the state needs to allow the Pride parade to go on as planned. The latest one came from organizations called the United Movement of Serbdom and St. Czar Lazar Guard. These organizations sent threats of violence to a few dozen addresses, including the Office of the President and the cabinet of the minister for Kosovo and Metohija. The police confirmed to B92 that the Guard leader Hadzi Andrej Milic was detained for interrogation and the prosecutors say all threats are undergoing serious scrutiny. The Parade organizers say that the Serbian authorities can clearly see from these statements where the public threat in Serbia is coming from. The arrested Guard leader, who is also the president of the party United Movement of Serbdom, Hadzi Andrej Milic was arrested this March on suspicion of having forged signatures to register a political party. Threats to Pride Parade Initiative 33 announced today that as the parade is getting closer, the calls to lynch members of the LGBT population are becoming more frequent. The state has no right to remain silent to open calls to physical violence against the parade participants that one of the leaders of the right-wing organization Nasi 1389 Ivan Ivanovic has been making. In their statement, the organization said that Nasi 1389 openly called for physical prevention of the parade and that one of the Nasi 1389 leaders Ivan Ivanovic referred to the LGBT population as "sickos" who are to be physically attacked in order to stop the parade. "This is a glaring example of hate speech and the state cannot remain silent, if its intentions to support the parade are genuine," said the Initiative 33 and demanded that Ivanovic be arrested.
