At around 3 a.m., in the Roma encampment of Balata in Vrsac, the last escaped convict, Marjan Stojanov, was recaptured. The police have returned all of the eight fugitives to the same prison they escaped from three days ago. Last escaped convict recaptured Yesterday evening in Vrsac, Milan Todorovic was caught, while the remaining six were picked up early on Thursday morning in the village of Oresac on the Danube-Tisa canal, near Vrsac. As earlier announced by the authorities, prison escapes are not criminal offences and the fugitives will only be disciplined, although Todorovic and Stojanov will be charged with two armed robberies carried out during their flight. The first night after their escape they assaulted the owner of a house in Vrsac, stealing some money and a mobile phone, while the second night they broke into a shop, taking RSD 3000 (about EUR 40), mobile phone cards, as well as a mobile-phone top-up machine. An investigation has confirmed the original suspicion that the owner of the house did in fact let the men in of his own free will. The eight fugitives – Denis Rovcanin, Ivan Nikolic, Zoran Mladen, Oliver Lekic, Rajko Jovanovic and Dragan Aleksovski, Marjan Stojanov and Milan Todorovic – escaped from Vrsac prison on the night of October 30/31. After lights-out at 9.30 p.m., they removed the bars from their cell windows, and escaped via the roof, through barbed-wire and gardens neighboring the prison out on to the streets of the town.
