Today marks 15 years since the kidnapping and murder of 16 Serbian citizens from Sjeverin. Members of the Serbian paramilitary formation Osvetnici (Avengers) kidnapped 15 men and one woman on October 22, 1992 from a bus traveling from Pljevlja-Priboj on the territory of the Republic of Srpska. Fifteen year commemoration of Sjeverin crime The paramilitaries took the victims to Visegrad, where they were psychologically and physically abused and then killed on the banks of the Drina River. The 16 victims were killed because they were Muslims. The Serbian Supreme Court confirmed convictions for four member of the paramilitary group on May 18, 2006 for the war crime. Dragutin Dragicevic is serving a 20-year sentence, Djordje Sevic was convicted to 15 years, while two others were sentences to 20 years in absentia, Milan Lukic, who was in the meanwhile arrested and extradited to the Hague Tribunal and Oliver Krsmanovic, remains a fugitive.
