BELGRADE Control and management of public finances are extremely important for Serbia's progress in EU integration, Serbia's negotiator Tanja Miscevic said on Thursday. "Today, we are discussing how to put our finances in order and manage them more transparently so that we could integrate into the EU system," said Miscevic, who heads the Serbian delegation to today's explanatory screening, during a break in talks at the European Commission (EC) headquarters. "Control of public finances important for progress" "The management of finances is an issue that runs horizontally through the entire system of government, not only at state, but also at local level," explained Miscevic, who came to Brussels together with State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Nikola Cosovic. During Thursday's round of the Brussels screening, the third in a row, relating to Chapter 32, EC experts are presenting to the Serbian delegation the EU system of financial control. Miscevic noted that the Serbian delegation had been reduced in size due to the austerity measures. After this round, the first bilateral screening will be held in Brussels next month, during which Serbian experts will present to EC officials the system of financial management that is applied in Serbia.
