BELGRADE The 2013 agrarian budget will account for 3.7 percent of the entire budget - "the planned pace that would ensure that the amount in 2014 reaches five percent". This is according to Minister of Agriculture Goran Knezevic, who spoke on Monday. Agrarian spending to account for 3.7 percent of budget He specified that next year, 30-35 percent of the subsidies would go to cattle-breeding, which is a step forward in comparison to the previous year, and the ministry's recommendation is that subsidies introduced as emergency measures for remedying the impacts of the drought should remain in place in the next year. In a statement to reporters in the village of Kraljevci near Ruma, northern Serbia, Knezevic said that the budget projected for 2012 was not realistic, but rather the result of petty politicking as it was drafted for the election year. The minister underscored that the entire government has a clear and unique goal that agriculture and energy should be to two domains to invest in. Commenting on the recent visit of the Serbian government's representatives to Abu Dhabi, the minister pointed to the main topic - investments in irrigation systems amounting to EUR 1.25 billion in the next several years, and assistance to agricultural companies that are being restructured.
