Serban central bank sells EUR 20mn

The Serbian dinar (RSD) weakened by 0.1 percent and the official middle exchange rate was set at RSD 112.4376 per one euro (EUR) on Tuesday. This came despite the fact that the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) sold EUR 20 million, says the NBS website. In April, the largest outflow of foreign exchange reserves was caused by the withdrawal of banks' mandatory foreign reserves to the net amount of EUR 469.8 million. EUR 210 million was spent on the NBS interventions in the interbank foreign exchange market last month. Counting in today's intervention, the NBS has sold a total of EUR 783.5 million in the interbank foreign exchange market since the beginning of the year, to ensure smooth functioning of the foreign exchange market. This year, the dinar was the strongest on January 11, when one euro was worth RSD 103.6922. On a monthly basis, the dinar weakened against the euro by 0.8 percent today, while dropping by 11.6 percent year-on-year. On Monday, the indicative dinar-versus-dollar exchange rate was 87.5478, lower by 0.5 percent than the previous value.
