A new protest during the night in Tbilisi
In the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, another protest against the authorities was held during the night, which passed without incident, Interfax reported today.
The police did not appear near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue, where the protesters gathered, although special forces units and water cannons were several hundred meters away, in Freedom Square.
At the protest rally last night, there was no address to the crowd, but its participants told the journalists that they have two demands from the authorities - to release all the demonstrators who were detained by the police at previous protests from administrative and criminal liability and to call new parliamentary elections.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said at a press conference yesterday that there will be no new parliamentary elections, since voters elected the ruling Georgian Dream party in the previous parliamentary elections.
Similar protests have been held in Batumi, Kutaisi and other cities of Georgia in recent days.
Protests in Georgia began after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced on November 28 that the country would suspend negotiations on joining the European Union for four years.
