The Molotov cocktails caused a small fire, which was quickly extinguished by the on-duty firefighting crew.

Water cannons were on standby but were not deployed, and police officers did not issue any warnings or calls to the demonstrators.

The demonstrations ended after several hours with a march toward Skanderbeg Square.

The demonstrators announced that protests would continue tomorrow, when a plenary session of parliament is scheduled.

Protests led by students have been taking place in Albania for nine days. They began over dissatisfaction with the state of the education system, high study costs, and limited employment opportunities for young people, but have since grown into broader demonstrations against the government of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, with protesters demanding his resignation.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the public this morning in a video posted on social media, reiterating his call for dialogue with the demonstrators.

In the video, published on Facebook this morning, he placed the invitations on concrete benches, rather than on chairs as he had done the previous day.

The video was accompanied by the caption: "Good morning."

Another tense day expected

According to local media reports, another tense day is expected in Tirana, as students and citizens have announced a new gathering outside the Albanian Parliament at 9 a.m.

The protest coincides with a plenary session scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., Albanian Post reports.

The call for the gathering was made by one of the demonstrators while the crowd was at Skanderbeg Square, following a march from the Prime Minister’s Office to the center of the capital.
