Alarms sound as hurricane approaches
Tropical Storm Isaias formed early this morning over the warm waters off Mexico’s eastern coast, and meteorologists expect it to strengthen into a hurricane and hit the U.S. Gulf Coast later this week.
Isaias was located about 460 kilometers west of Progreso, Mexico, and approximately 935 kilometers southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said, according to AP.
The storm was moving east-northeast at around 13 kilometers per hour.
It is not yet known where it could make landfall along the Gulf Coast, but the National Hurricane Center’s initial forecasts indicate that Isaias could make landfall somewhere between eastern Louisiana and western Florida.
