Urgent warning issued as disaster looms: "It's approaching..."

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, heavy showers are possible in the Kanto-Koshin region, which includes Tokyo, as well as in the Tokai region of central Japan, Kyodo News reports.

This afternoon, delays and cancellations of departures on the Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed rail line, which connects Tokyo and Osaka, are possible.

Typhoon Dujun, the 25th typhoon of the year, has already disrupted transportation and led to the closure of several sections of major highways.

The agency issued a level-five emergency warning, the highest possible level, due to the risk of landslides on Izu Oshima, the largest island in the Izu island chain, located about 100 kilometers from the capital.

Up to 250 millimeters of rain is forecast in the Tokai and Kanto regions, as well as on the Izu Islands.
