New alarm in Spain: Another mass migrant influx is looming

The CNI has been monitoring social media groups for several days where, according to intelligence sources, a new attempt at a mass border crossing via the Tarajal border crossing is being organized. Although August 15 has been identified as the planned date, Spanish authorities do not rule out the possibility that the organizers could change it in order to avoid heightened security measures.

Spain’s Ministry of the Interior said it has all the necessary resources to protect the border, while security services are expecting Morocco’s cooperation to help prevent another wave of migrants.

The warning comes just days after a major migrant crisis in Ceuta. The president of the Spanish city, Juan Jesús Vivas, said that around 100 people died during last week’s mass crossing from Morocco, while between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta.

Over the course of several days last week, around 70,000 migrants entered Ceuta from Morocco. Most of them left Spanish territory voluntarily after a brief stay. Spanish authorities are now seeking to prevent a similar scenario from unfolding again.
