Shots fired at U.S. Consulate; Major manhunt launched VIDEO
Toronto police have launched a major investigation after a shot was fired at the U.S. Consulate building yesterday. This marks the second incident targeting the institution this year.
A police officer stationed outside the building heard the sound of gunfire and saw a white car without license plates fleeing the scene.
Police immediately responded and launched a high-speed pursuit, but it was soon called off for safety reasons. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and it is still unclear exactly how many people were involved in the attack.
A single shell casing was found at the scene, and damage to the building's facade was also observed.
Toronto Deputy Police Chief Frank Barredo confirmed that at least two people were inside the consulate at the time of the attack.
However, he noted that the building was well protected and that people inside likely did not even hear the gunshot.
"I want to say to the person or persons responsible: We will catch you," she said.
The latest attack comes after a similar incident reported in March this year, which police at the time described as a national security incident.
That shooting led to police raids in June and the arrest of several 18- and 19-year-old men linked to a wider weapons trafficking network.
