This development provides new insight into the system, which China claims can intercept both satellites and intercontinental ballistic missiles, according to Defense Express.

The HQ-29 was first publicly displayed at a military parade in Beijing in September 2025.

Although its development began in the early 2000s, the system has only recently entered operational service.

According to available assessments by military experts, the HQ-29 is a highly mobile strategic anti-missile system designed to destroy ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and satellites in low Earth orbit.

Its estimated range reaches up to 2,500 kilometers, with a maximum interception altitude of around 850 km (more realistic estimates range between 150 and 600 km).

The system is fully mobile, allowing it to be rapidly redeployed and concealed from enemy satellites and reconnaissance.

Military analysts point out that, if these specifications are accurate, the Chinese HQ-29 would significantly outperform the S-500, which according to known data can engage targets at distances of up to 600 km and altitudes of up to 200 km.

The appearance of these videos comes at a time of heightened tensions in the South China Sea. Just a day earlier, China sent heavily armed bombers, fighter jets, and naval vessels near a disputed reef as a show of force against the U.S.-Philippine military exercises Balikatan, which involve 17,000 troops.

Experts warn that the HQ-29 represents a significant step forward in China’s development of anti-missile and anti-satellite defense.

The system could significantly alter the balance of power in a potential conflict in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in relation to U.S. and allied forces.

The footage quickly went viral among military analysts.

China has not yet issued an official comment on the new videos, according to United24media, as reported by Večernji list.

Additionally, according to unofficial information, the system has already been deployed near the border with India, which has led to speculation that Beijing is prepared for a potential escalation of conflict.
