New tactic? "Kill the Russian commander…"
Major Oleg Shiryaev, commander of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said—according to social media reports—that Ukrainians need a new tactic: killing Russian tactical commanders.
“We need to change our strategic approaches. Killing a Russian army commander does not significantly affect the situation on the battlefield. Wars are fought by tactical-level commanders—battalion and company leaders. If we eliminate them along with their drone component, that will bring success,” Shiryaev said.
According to him, Russian forces are using small-group infiltration tactics to concentrate forces or to cut off the logistical routes of Ukrainian fighters.
“As a response, counter‑diversion operations are being carried out to detect, block, and then destroy such groups,” he said.
“In operations where we surprise the enemy, they have no time to carry out appropriate maneuvers or reinforce directions. In such cases, we can advance, destroy the enemy, and consolidate positions. This is the result of discipline and the fact that we control the process and every assault group,” said the commander of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment.
