Red weather alert issued: Emergency in a European country – Evacuation ordered PHOTO/VIDEO
In Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, heavy rainfall has caused rising water levels in the Senio and Lamone rivers, prompting authorities to issue a red weather alert for today for the areas around Bologna, Ferrara, and Ravenna, Italian media report.
In many locations, the two rivers have reached or exceeded critical levels, but so far they have not caused flooding, the Ansa news agency reported.
Authorities in the town of Castel Bolognese have ordered the evacuation of residents living along the Senio River.
Water levels of the Lamone River are also rising, prompting local authorities in Bagnacavallo to order the evacuation of the Villanova and Glorie neighborhoods.
Evacuation Points Ready
A reception center has been prepared for evacuated residents, and they will also be accommodated in local sports halls.
The Civil Protection Department of the Emilia-Romagna region is constantly monitoring the situation, but rainfall is expected to ease, which should reduce pressure on the rivers, Ansa reported.
