Chief of the Libyan Army General Staff Mohamed Al Hadad and his entourage were killed today in a plane crash, which disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from Turkey’s Ankara Esenboğa Airport, Libyan Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah said.

“We have been informed of the death of the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, Al Hadad, and those accompanying him,” Dbeibah said, as reported by Hürriyet.

According to reports, the plane crashed about two kilometers from the village of Kesikavak in the Haymana district.

Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that an investigation into the plane crash has been launched.

Earlier, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that contact with the private plane carrying Al Hadad and four members of his entourage was lost shortly after takeoff from the airport.

As Yerlikaya noted on the X platform, the Falcon 50 aircraft, registration 9H-DFJ, took off at 20:10 for Tripoli, and radar contact was lost at 20:52 local time.

“A message was received from the plane indicating an emergency landing in the Haymana area, but later contact with the aircraft was not restored,” Yerlikaya said.

The Chief of the General Staff, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, officially welcomed General Al-Hadad, who visited Turkey as his guest, at the General Staff headquarters.
